When guys reach out to me to capture their proposal, their ideas and visions for the moment are always adorable and usually creative. When Danijel first emailed me, he knew pretty much what he wanted to do. He explained how he and his girlfriend Milly would be visiting New York City (from Australia!!!) and that he wanted to propose to her on one of two famous bridges in Central Park. So after researching both, giving him my recommendations and coming up with a game plan, we were ready to roll! With everything in place (best feeling, ever!) Danijel sent me an email telling me that he was so glad he chose me to be his proposal photographer…this email alone made my week! Hearing my clients tell me how helpful I am or how much I’ve calmed their nerves makes me love this business even more than I already to. The role of a photographer isn’t just to show up and take beautiful portraits…it’s to advise, plan, listen and reassure. So with our plan ready to go, Danijel and I (communicating very slyly through Facebook messenger) relayed information on our every moves back and forth…right up until they were a few feet behind me! Danijel had Milly walk to the beautiful Bow Bridge, and, following my instructions perfectly, got down on one knee. Swoon!

To my horror, when I first arrived at the bridge and got into my inconspicuous “tourist” pose to avoid Milly seeing me, I noticed there was an actual wedding happening ON the bridge!! A full-blown wedding… with a pastor and everything! I wanted to warn Danijel but with only a few minutes before they arrived, it was iffy that he would even get it and if he did, I didn’t want to freak him out, so I crossed my fingers that our plan would go smoothly and that the bride, groom AND full bridal party wouldn’t be too distracting. Thankfully, minutes before Milly and Danijel got to the bridge, the bride and groom exited, leaving only the family of the couple..phew! Crisis averted.

Milly and Danijel strolled onto the bridge and within seconds, we had a proposal!! I absolutely love this couple. From the minute we met (well, maybe a few minutes after we met…since Milly’s first words to me were literally “Who are you?” lol!) we clicked. They’re SO sweet and so funny and witty. The banter between them was just priceless. Danijel and I had a blast telling Milly how we were able to hide our planning from her and Milly told me all the funny things that led up to the trip…including her accidentally dying he hair blue!! I cannot express how much fun it was to shoot this proposal and how much Milly and Danijel’s personalities radiate in every portrait. So them, and so New York!
