When a client first books me to shoot their proposal, the first question I as is “What is your vision? How do you see yourself getting down on one knee?” The location and props used for a proposal are just as important as the proposal itself and since everyone’s love stories are different, so is the vision. So when my old high school friend (and softball teammate!!) Stephanie told me about her plans to propose to fiancé Jamie (Jamie had just proposed to Stephanie first recently!) I was hooked. We shoot a lot of proposals outside…the light is glowiest, the greenery adds color but doesn’t distract from the portraits but Stephanie’s plan was so unique and romantic that it actually brought the perks of being outside indoors! What this genius lady did was rent a floor-t0-ceiling white loft in the heart of New York City and, with the help of some seriously creative and style-savvy friends, cloaked the room with heavenly flowers, ferns and candles. Ahh!! I asked Stephanie’s friend where he found such a gorgeous metal and glass ring box and when he said Anthropologie, it dawned on me…this was totally and completely an Anthropologie proposal!! So New York but with a subtle hint of European style. This bright and airy loft could easily have been the setting of a magazine photoshoot. So feminine but antique-y and cool…I can easily say that this was one of my favorites of all time! After having a driver pick Jamie up from work, we waited for her to enter the loft…
