Although we received upwards of 6 inches of snow last week, it still doesn’t quite feel like Winter to me yet. For one, it was close to 60 degrees this morning and the fact that the only shoe that fits my injured ankle is a flat isn’t so bad with such mild weather (ask me how I feel again when it’s 10 degrees out!) I’m the type of person who loves to experience the beautiful change of seasons by altering the designs around me somehow. Think of it as the Spring cleaning of design! I could be happy with swapping a few pillows or moving some furniture around (go Fung Shui!) but this year I went all out and decided to transform the entire feel of my bedroom simply with a coat of paint! Previously, my walls were sporting Valspar’s incredible and rich “Epic”. While I loved the gold/beige tones of this color, it tended to become a very droopy dark yellow at night. Because my bedroom faces East, absolutely any color would emit a glorious glow from the moment there was sunlight! It was the nighttime effect that had me falling out of love with my design. And then I had the pleasure of meeting Filtered Shade! Lovers of Grey know the very specific differences and hues that every shade of Grey features (there is NO such thing as simple light grey and dark grey!) There are purple greys, green greys, blue greys, beige greys (better known by grey lovers as greige…) so when I came across the perfect grey that seemed to encompass the beauty all they greys out there, I jumped on it! Several hours later and, for the most part, from a seated position, I was able to finish the entire room without putting too much stress on my (still) lame ankle! Over the next few days I slowly updated the rest of the bedroom, swapping different art pieces and re-hanging my most prized family heirlooms and portraits…some as old as 1890! Finally, with much dedication and a lot of limping back and forth to see my work up close and from a distance (cue the hand-to-chin, head tilt and stare), I deemed my project complete! Using white as a base for our design, we styled a rustic pretty (or farmhouse glam) look with pops of green, wood and distressed metal and silver. Never trendy, I like to style what I love in a way that I could be happy with for decades.

My former love, Epic, which I still think is totally epic!

And my new flame, Filtered Shade…my perfect grey!

Neutral, rustic but subtly pretty and light! We’re in love again! Next project: the office!
