Of all the weddings I’ve shot in my career, I have come to realize I am not a crier at events (which is a great thing, because who wants to look over and see their photog crying?!) Although I’ve heard of many photographers who do shed a few tears after being moved by what they’re shooting, that’s never been me although I will admit I’ve gotten misty-eyed before because frankly, the love stories of my couples are absolutely incredible! But then there are people like Ana and Sergio with love stories as beautiful as they are, who have officially converted me to a crier! When Ivone, Ana’s daughter, asked me to shoot their wedding and I started gathering all the details, I couldn’t wait to tell their story through my photos. Ivone (also a wonderful photog), who is the fiancé of a fellow fire fighter, informed me that neither bride nor groom spoke very good English and that she would be serving as interpreter throughout the wedding! I admit I was intimidated at first because one of the most important keys to successfully shooting a wedding is communication and I was worried that my vision and theirs would be blurred but I quickly discovered that when working with two beautiful souls like Ana and Sergio, absolutely nothing is lost in translation…literally!

Originally from Chile, Ana and Sergio met online and amazingly maintained a long-distance relationship for 8 years! He frequently traveled to the U.S. to see her, and she to Chile. Awaiting his retirement from a Chilean police department in 2014, they decided they no longer wanted to live apart and Sergio made the move from his native country all the way to New York to be with his longtime love. (I’m misty-eyed now!) So at a beautiful little restaurant in Suffern, on a freezing night in January, Sergio and Ana exchanged their vows in front of their family and friends, including Ana’s daughter and son as well as Sergio’s daughter. I’m not exaggerating when I say that their family could all be models…all of them! Such gorgeous people, inside and out.

Sergio had the absolute best moves in the houseBlog128-27Blog128-28

It’s a beautiful, glorious thing to be in love but when that love radiates to your family, friends and even strangers, and your unmistakable kindness envelopes those around you, that is something extra to be celebrated. I am so honored to have photographed such a love and such a sweet pairing of genuinely beautiful souls and I doubt I will ever see such innovative dance moves again!

Congratulations Sergio + Ana!

  1. pleasure working with Alexandra! As an MC I enjoy working with photographers that are able to adapt and take direction. Too often I find many are set in their own ways, Alexandra on the other hand was charismatic and a team player resulting in a most memorable night for the bride and groom. A true professional at her craft and would enjoy working with her in future events . Thank you and keep up the fantastic and quality work – MC Petey Pete
