I’ve always said that proposals are my favorite thing to shoot…yes, even more than weddings! Everything from the planning, to the adrenaline from hiding, right up until the raw emotion during the actual proposal is a constant reminder of why I started this business and especially how absolutely amazing everyone’s love stories really are. Another aspect that has me completely smitten with shooting proposals is more geographic. Nearly all of the proposals I’ve shot have been with clients who traveled from out-of-state or even country…including Australia and Sweden! When I received Jess’s email saying that she and her partner, Kandas would be flying to New York from Texas for New Years and that she wanted to propose that weekend, I couldn’t answer fast enough!! Especially since Jess picked Bow Bridge as her proposal location…the same bridge I shot Milly and Daniel’s proposal at on Christmas Eve!! So on a freezing but gorgeous January afternoon, Jess and Kandas took a carriage ride through Central Park and strolled to Bow Bridge where Jess would pull off her perfect proposal!!
When proposing on bridges, I tell clients that when they get down on one knee, to try and be at the center of the bridge…and, if possible, pause before dropping down, just in case someone walks in front of my camera, or I need to adjust myself. Not only did Jess follow my instructions perfectly, but she managed to get a selfie in there, too!! Ever better than this? The bridge almost completely cleared out…unheard of!
While I was waiting for Jess and Kandas to reach the bridge, Jess texts me and says that they are delayed because Kandas was distracted by music….and then bubbles!! So while we continued with our formal portraits, I found the bubbles and absolutely had to include them in the session…too funny and so unique!!
I love those laughs!!
Congratulations, Kandas and Jess!
